EBSA Sets Auto Health Enrollment Forum

The Employee Benefits Security Administration (EBSA) will hold a public automatic health plan enrollment forum April 8.

One section of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) changed the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) to require an FLSA-covered employer with more than 200 full-time employees to enroll new full-time employees in one of the employer’s health plans automatically and keep the employees in the plan.

EBSA, an arm of the U.S. Labor Department, will develop guidance to help employers comply with the new FLSA automatic enrollment provisions.

The U.S. Treasury Department and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services are also helping to implement PPACA, and they will have representatives at the forum, EBSA says.

Forum panels will focus on the definition of full-time employee; the selection of plan, benefit package and coverage used for auto-enrolled employees; and notice and opt-out requirements.
