The book, Retirementology: Rethinking the American Dream in a New Economy, has been published by FT Press.
Salsbury uses hypothetical scenarios and comments from focus group participants to illustrate how emotions can affect financial decisions.
Salsbury is an executive vice president at Jackson National Life Distributors L.L.C., a unit of Jackson National Life Insurance Company, Lansing, Mich., which is a unit of Prudential P.L.C., London.
Salsbury has come up with a number of new financial terms, such as “equimortis” – the condition of relying on home equity to fund retirement – and “bingefy” — justifying a big-ticket purchase by noting that one was previously frugal.
