President of the San Francisco Fed since June 2004, Yellen had been a Fed Governor from 1994 to 1997, according the Federal Reserve’s Web site. She holds an undergraduate economics degree from Brown University, and a doctorate in economics from Yale University. As part of the faculty of the University of California at Berkley since 1980, she was the Eugene E. and Catherine M. Trefethen Professor of Business and Professor of Economics, and is now professor emeritus.

Yellen has been chair of the Council of Economic Advisers and of the Economic Policy Committee of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. Her Federal Reserve biography is here.
