U.S. Must Focus On Jobs: Survey

A new survey about New Year’s resolutions shows Americans continue to have mixed feelings about their own financial future, as well as the country’s.

The survey by Allianz Life Insurance Company of North America, Minneapolis, asked what the country’s New Year’s resolution should be for 2010. The main responses:

–52.6% want jobs created to reduce unemployment.

–32.4% want the country to fix its finances.

–10.6% want healthcare issues to be solved.

–4.4% want to mend strained relations around the world.

When asked whether financial planning was part of their own personal New Year’s resolutions:

–33.6% said “I don’t have enough money to worry about it..”

–33.2% said they are including financial planning in their 2010 resolutions.

–23.3% said they already have a solid financial plan.

When asked what type of expert professional service they would most like to use, 40.7% chose a financial expert, compared to only 27.3% who said they wanted a personal trainer.

But when asked what resolution they are most likely to keep, 40.2% said diet and exercise, vs. 38.7% who cited managing their money better.

Conducted by Synovate Research, Toronto, the survey polled 1,000 respondents across the United States in November 2009.
