A benefits firm has introduced a program that can help self-insured group health plans get a 50% discount on kidney dialysis services.
AmWINS Group Benefits, Warwick, R.I., a unit of AmWINS Inc., Charlotte, N.C., says its new Dialysis Management Solutions unit uses regional pricing data and a proprietary re-pricing methodology to adjust dialysis claims.
That can reduce direct costs and hold down increases in the cost of stop-loss coverage, according to AmWINS.
AmWINS is marketing the program to all self-funded health plans, whether or not the plans have participants who now need dialysis.
