Nearly 80% of Americans would be more likely to back health care reform if it includes improved coverage for long term care services, according to a study by Georgetown University, Washington.
A report by researchers at Georgetown looks at ways to improve access to long term care for people with limited financial resources and ways to strengthen LTC protections for the population at large. The report was sponsored by the SCAN Foundation, established by SCAN Health Plan, Long Beach, Calif., a nonprofit health care program for seniors.
The researchers’ proposals to boost LTC for lower-income people include improved coordination of medical and LTC for Medicare-Medicaid “dual eligibles” and to expand Medicaid support for home and community-based services.
