CIGNA HealthCare is giving more doctors, hospitals and clinics the ability to use the CIGNA Cost of Care Estimator tool.
CIGNA HealthCare, Bloomfield, Conn., a unit of CIGNA Corp., Philadelphia, also is extending weekend and holiday call-service hours for providers.
The cost tool and the extended call-service hours now are available to most of the providers in CIGNA's provider network, the company says.
When CIGNA was testing the estimator tool, about 74% of the consumers who said physicians shared estimator-provided estimates with them predicted that knowing how much they owed would make it more likely that they could pay their medical bills.
