Alabama has set up a Long Term Care Partnership Program.

State LTC Partnership programs coordinate private LTC insurance benefits and Medicaid nursing home benefits.

Alabama residents who buy Partnership LTC policies approved by the Alabama Department of Insurance can keep a dollar of assets for every dollar of LTC coverage purchased if they turn to Medicaid after exhausting private LTC benefits.

Alabama will recognize Partnership policies issued by insurers in other states, but other states may have different program rules than Alabama does, according to officials at the Alabama Department of Insurance and the Alabama Medicaid Agency.

Alabama residents who already own LTC insurance can replace their policies with Partnership policies, officials say.
