A managed care company is trying to get tobacco out of its operations.

CIGNA Corp., Philadelphia, says it will observe the Great American Smoke Out by banning tobacco from CIGNA-sponsored events and CIGNA-related conduct of business as well as from CIGNA’s 179 offices.

The change will take place April 1, the company says.

CIGNA says it will provide a variety of on-site and telephone-based coaching programs for users who need helping quitting, along with full coverage for drugs that help people stop using tobacco.

CIGNA already offers a discount of $16 per pay period on health coverage for employees who promise that they and covered dependents do not smoke.
