Lincoln National Corp. will be paying extra benefits to group long-term disability insurance claimants with especially serious disabilities.

Lincoln, Philadelphia, says it will be selling a standard 10% Progressive Income Benefit feature along with new group LTD policies quoted after Sept. 20.

The new benefit will be triggered when an insured suffers the inability to perform 2 or more “activities of daily living” or cognitive impairment.

The typical base benefit amount might be 60% of the insured’s income.

The new feature would increase benefit payments enough to replace 70% of the insured’s income, Lincoln says.

“Additional Progressive Income Benefit amounts may be purchased to raise the benefit amount up to 100% of the insured’s pre-disability income,” Lincoln says. “These increments can be paid for by the employer, or by the employee.”
