Colonial Life & Accident Insurance Company will be making limited-benefit health plans available to more employers.

Colonial Life, Columbia, S.C., a unit of Unum Group Corp., Chattanooga, Tenn., says it is updating the Colonial Health Advantage limited benefit medical program to allow employers with as few as 3 employees to participate.

“Minimum group sizes vary depending on the size of the account, whether the pre-existing condition exclusion is waived and whether the employer is paying the premiums,” Colonial Life says.

Colonial Life also will offer the discount for employer-paid plans to groups with as few as 25 eligible employees.

In addition, Colonial Life will not impose pre-existing condition exclusions when it takes over other plans.

“The pre-existing condition exclusion can be waived for many groups when at least 10 insured employees move from a competitor’s plan to Colonial Life’s plan,” Colonial Life says.
