The parent of Standard Insurance Company has named a new president and announced the departure of its senior vice president in charge of asset management.

Greg Ness, who has been vice president of retirement plan sales and marketing at StanCorp Financial Group Inc., Portland, Ore., will become the company’s president and chief operating officer, StanCorp says.

He succeeds Eric Parsons as president. Parsons, who has been chairman and chief executive officer of StanCorp as well as president, will continue to hold those titles, StanCorp. says.

“Greg’s extensive accomplishments across our organization over 30 years position him and the company well for future growth and innovation,” Parsons says in a statement. “In Greg’s new role, he will align the insurance services and asset management businesses to focus on providing our customers a suite of products under one brand.”

StanCorp also says Kim Ledbetter, its vice president for asset management, will retire Jan. 2, 2009, after 35 years at the company.

Speaking of Ledbetter, Parsons says “his accomplishments in building the retirement plans business and the asset management group for StanCorp have put in place a key foundation for the future of the company.”
