A new Chair and four members have been appointed by the Board of Directors of the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standard to its nine-member Disciplinary and Ethics Commission.

Named to serve as Commission Chair for the remainder of 2008 is former FPA Chair and President Daniel B. Moisand. Also appointed were: V. Raymond Ferrara, James M. Knaus, Yvonne Dean and Michael Ross. They join remaining members Patricia Coriden, Edward Mora, Glenn Parker, and Jack Harmon (who will assume the Chair in 2009). All current DEC members are CFP certificants, although CFP Board CEO Kevin Keller, in an interview with IA Washington Bureau Chief Melanie Waddell, indicated that he contemplates having “one or two public members serving on the nine-member commission as we go forward.”

The addition of members of the general public to what had always been a peer review board is one of the issues that led to the resignation of five sitting commission members (including the 2008 Co-Chairs and the 2009 Chair-Elect) in early March.

(A statement from the resigning Commission members was published in the May issue of Investment Advisor and can be found here.

Statements on the matter from CFP Board CEO Kevin Keller and Chair David G. Strege appear in the June issue of IA and can be found here.)
