Tech Bits: Benefitfocus, Zix, MEDecision, Others

A benefits software firm is getting health account management technology from a unit of Express Scripts Inc.

Benefitfocus.com Inc., Charleston, S.C., has agreed to building the “consumer-directed healthcare” system from ConnectYourCare L.L.C., Hunt Valley, Md., into its own system.

Express Scripts, St. Louis, a pharmacy benefits manager, acquired ConnectYourCare from the founding investors in October 2007.

The ConnectYourCare system Benefitfocus will be using includes health account payment card services, a consumer account and investment management system, and an electronic funds management and transfer system.

In other insurance and benefits technology news:

- Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Massachusetts, Boston, will be testing a program that will send disease management program eligibility information through a wireless electronic prescribing service run by Zix Corp., Dallas.

Massachusetts Blue will use the service to notify doctors prescribing certain drugs that patients may be eligible for Massachusetts Blue disease management programs, the companies say.

- MEDecision Inc., Wayne, Pa., has introduced the Alineo health care management system.

The system includes predictive modeling tools for identifying patients who could benefit from case management and disease management programs.

The system also will include medical information, care management program administration tools and reporting tools, MEDecision says.

- WorldDoc Inc., Las Vegas, will be combining its Web-based health education and information tools with Web-based health plan patient self-service tools from Eldorado Computing Inc., Phoenix, the companies say.

Eldorado does business as MphasiS Healthcare Solutions.

- DentalPlans.com Inc., Dania, Fla., has introduced a Spanish-language version of its main, English-language discount dental plan Web site.
