Two more managed care companies have agreed to follow New York’s new unofficial rules for compiling physician quality guides.

The list of companies that have agreed to follow ranking program rules developed by New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo now includes Health Insurance Plan of New York, New York, and a unit of UnitedHealth Group Inc., Minnetonka, Minn.

The companies have agreed to disclose their ranking procedures, use factors other than cost when ranking doctors, allow doctors to appeal their grades, and pay for an outside examiner to assess their ranking programs every 6 months.
