A large insurer is updating an ancillary benefits product.

The group dental arm of MetLife Inc., New York, has introduced a “graduating dental benefits” option as an alternative to programs that permit dental plan members to roll a portion of unused benefits over from one year to the next.

The option will increase annual maximum benefits over 2 or 3 years, up to a maximum of $3,000, regardless of plan members’ claim history, MetLife says.

The annual benefit increase should please plan members without giving them an incentive to skimp on oral health care, MetLife says.

MetLife also is adding dental implant coverage as a standard group plan feature.

MetLife has been making dental implant coverage an option since 2001.

Implant coverage now is part of the standard benefit package for employers with 10 or more eligible employees.
