A major U.S. group insurer is turning to an arm of a Bermuda carrier to help employers manage a major type of employee absence.

Aetna Inc., Hartford, says it intends to use ESIS Inc., Philadelphia, as a preferred provider of absence management services for integrated disability management program members who are receiving workers’ compensation benefits.

Aetna and ESIS, a unit of ACE Ltd., Hamilton, Bermuda, will work together to provide single-intake case management programs, return-to-work programs and reporting services, Aetna says.

The programs will draw on Aetna’s experience with managing disability and ESIS’s experience with managing workers’ comp claims, Aetna says.

The companies should be able to provide employer reports that combine the Aetna WorkAbility system and the ESIS Global Risk Advantage system, Aetna says.
