A large insurer is starting a major group insurance operation in Salt Lake City.
Humana Inc., Louisville, Ky., says it now is selling preferred provider plans, high-deductible plans and CoverageFirst preferred provider plans to Utah employers with 2 or more employees.
The CoverageFirst plans are low-deductible plans that provide access to a “benefit allowance” that encourages employees to become better health care consumers without forcing them to manage health care bank accounts, Humana says.
Humana already has been selling individual coverage and Medicare coverage in Utah, and its Utah provider network includes 29 hospitals and about 2,700 doctors, the company says.
