The board of American Community Mutual Insurance Company has named Arthur Dummer chairman and Michael Tobin to be president.

American Community, Livonia, Mich., is a health insurer.

Dummer, who has been an American Community board member, is president of the Donner Company, Salt Lake City, an actuarial consulting firm, and executive director of the Utah Life and Health Insurance Guaranty Association.

Tobin is a consultant and lawyer who has been a member of the American Community board for 3 years.

Giblin previously was CFO of Amedisys Inc., Baton Rouge, La., a home health nursing company.

Tennessee Blue also has hired Jim Srite to be chief actuary. Srite previously was senior vice president of data analysis for a Milwaukee-based health insurance unit of Assurant Inc., New York.

- The group insurance business at CIGNA Corp., Philadelphia, has hired Craig Guiffre to be senior vice president for sales and distribution.

Guiffre previously was vice president of the group life and disability business at Guardian Life Insurance Company of America, New York.

Guiffre has a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Lehigh University and a master’s degree in business from Manhattan College.

- Principal Financial Group Inc., Des Moines, Iowa, has hired 3 executives.

Principal brought in Dr. Mary Johnson to be national dental director.

Johnson has been a dentist in private practice in Guthrie Center, Iowa, for 20 years. She has a dental degree from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln.

Principal also has hired Chris Blair to be a vice president of consultant relations for retirement and investor services in San Francisco and Tom O’Grady to be regional managing director of its Illinois business center in Chicago.

Blair previously was national sales manager for retirement services at a unit of UnionBanCal Corp., San Francisco.

O’Grady was a partner in the Chicago office of New York Life Insurance Company, New York.

- D.W. Simpson & Company Inc., Chicago, an actuarial recruitment firm, has hired David Benton to be director of retained search services.

Benton previously was an experienced hire recruiter in Chicago for the life and health and property-casualty national actuarial practice at Ernst & Young L.L.P.

Benton also has worked in the past for D.W. Simpson.

- 21st Century Financial Inc., Akron, Ohio, has promoted Mark Vujevich to sales manager.

21st Century is an agency affiliated with Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company, Horsham, Pa.

Vujevich previously was a personal producer at 21st Century.

Vujevich has a bachelor’s degree in economics.

- Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld L.L.P., Washington, has hired Mark Botti to be a partner.

Botti previously was a litigation section chief in the Antitrust Division at the U.S. Department of Justice.

Botti worked on insurance and health care antitrust cases as well as other types of antitrust cases, Akin Gump says.

Botti has a bachelor’s degree from Dartmouth College and a law degree from Case Western Reserve University.

Botti is vice chair of the health care and pharmaceuticals committee at the American Bar Association, Chicago, and he served for 3 years as co-chair of the government litigation subcommittee of the ABA Section of Litigation Antitrust Litigation Committee.
