U.S. states increased the number of specific health insurance coverage requirements 3.1% this year, to 1,901.
The rate of increase is up from 1% in 2006, according to the Council for Affordable Health Insurance, Alexandria, Va.
CAHI has described the “mandates,” or requirements that an insurer cover specific types of health care providers, benefits or patient populations, in the 2007 edition of its state health insurance mandates report.
