Badger State Sees Slow Growth In Health Premiums

Small group health insurance premiums went up only slightly faster than inflation in Wisconsin this year.

The Wisconsin Office of the Commissioner of Insurance has announced that finding in a report on average increases for new coverage for companies with 25 employees and 75 employees in Milwaukee and in a smaller community.

The Consumer Price Index inflation rate has been 2.1% for the past 12 months.

For a typical employer with 25 employees, the average increase for health coverage for a single employee was 3% in Milwaukee and 3.9% in Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., officials say.

For an employer with 75 employees, the average increase for single coverage was 5.2% in Wisconsin Rapids. In Milwaukee, the cost of coverage for a 75-employee company actually fell 0.2%, officials estimate.
