Assurant Employee Benefits is promoting use of toothpaste, mints and gums that contain a low-calorie, cavity-fighting sweetener.
Assurant Employee Benefits, Kansas City, Mo., a unit of Assurant Inc., New York, has agreed to put a link to a menu of xylitol-sweetened products from Epic Industries Inc., Provo, Utah, on its employee benefits Web site.
An Assurant dental plan member who buys Epic products through the site will get a 50% discount on the first purchase and a 25% discount on later purchases, Assurant says.
Assurant says it is offering the discount program to celebrate National Children’s Dental Health Month, and in response to studies that suggest that use of xylitol can reduce the likelihood that children will develop cavities.
