A foundation affiliated with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota is giving a total of $495,000 in grants to help immigrants in Minnesota.

The 11 grants will go to efforts to promote good health among immigrants and help them adapt to living in the United States, according to the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota Foundation, Eagan, Minn.

In other philanthropic news, Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company, Springfield, Mass., has given $111,420 to cancer research, detection and treatment programs in 25 states.

MassMutual made the donations in connection with efforts in October 2006 to promote a series of 93 Pearls of Wisdom financial education seminars held in conjunction with Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

MassMutual held the seminars in part to promote the fact that it has been selling life insurance to survivors of breast cancer since 1964.
