Aetna Inc. is offering health plans for individuals and their families in Tennessee.

Consumers can buy the polices either directly from Aetna or through independent insurance agents or brokers.

Aetna, Hartford, is offering 5 standard PPO plans, 2 high-deductible plans compatible with health savings accounts, 2 hospital plans and an optional dental PPO plan. Each plan also enables parents to obtain health coverage for their children, even if no other family members enroll, the company says.

“More than 820,000 people in Tennessee are without health insurance,” commented Steve Wohlwend, general manager of Aetna small and middle market business in Aetna’s Southeast region. “That’s 14% of the state’s population,” he said.
