Ratner Companies has hired Century Healthcare to set up an employer-paid limited-benefit medical plan that will cover 14,000 stylists in 1,000 hair salons.

Ratner, Vienna, Va., the owner of several hair salon chains, is using the limited-benefit plan to replace its major medical plan because only 13% of employees were signing up for major medical coverage, according to Century, Irving, Texas.

Ratner is offering the new limited-benefit plan, or “mini med” plan, to stylists in its salons who work at least 25 hours a week, Century says.

The Ratner mini med plan includes access to a national preferred provider network, Century says.
