Successful cost controls helped WellPoint Inc. increase profits during the fourth quarter of 2005.
WellPoint, Indianapolis, a company formed by the merger of Anthem Inc., Indianapolis, and the old WellPoint Health Networks Inc., Thousand Oaks, Calif., is reporting $652 million in net income for the latest quarter on $10 billion in revenue, up from $184 million in net income on $6.2 billion in revenue for the fourth quarter of 2004.
The managed care company ended 2005 providing or administering health coverage for 34 million individuals, up from 28 million individuals a year earlier.
