Frist Delays Estate Ta Vote

The Senate will take up the estate tax issue when it returns from its August recess, Majority Leader Bill Frist said last week.

On the Senate floor, Frist said he would file a motion for cloture on the bill, which is known as HR 8 or the Death Tax Repeal Permanency Act of 2005, before the Senate recessed. The cloture motion, which eliminates the possibility of a filibuster by limiting the time for debate on a bill, would be voted on when the Senate reconvenes in September, with a vote on passage for the bill itself shortly thereafter.
