Big Apple Etends Health Carrier Contract

The government of New York City has extended a health coverage contract with a unit of WellChoice Inc., New York, for at least 1 more year.[@@]

The WellChoice unit, Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield, will provide hospital-only coverage for city employees and retirees until June 30, 2006, WellChoice says.

The New York City plan covers 823,000 people and accounts for about 16% of WellChoice’s health plan members, WellChoice says.
