Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois, Chicago, has introduced 2 high-deductible health insurance products.[@@]

The products, the BlueEdge Individual HSA and the BlueEdge Individual HSA 5000 health insurance policies, are designed for consumers who want to combine the policies with health savings accounts.

Once policyholders meet their deductibles, both new BlueEdge products offer the same core hospitalization, surgery, physician services and emergency care benefits that other Illinois Blue policies offer, Illinois Blue says.

Illinois Blue is making maternity benefits, well-child benefits and adult wellness benefits available to BlueEdge policy buyers as optional benefits.

The BlueEdge 5000 offers 100% coverage for customers who meet their deductibles, and the basic BlueEdge policy starts out offering 80% coverage once policyholders meet their deductibles.

Illinois Blue is a unit of Health Care Service Corp., Chicago.
