The American Academy of Actuaries, Washington, has elected Robert Wilcox president.[@@]

The academy, which was founded in 1965 and now has about 15,000 members, advises state and federal officials on insurance issues, employee benefits issues and other issues that require actuarial analysis.

Wilcox has a bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University. He has worked for Pacific Life Insurance Company, Newport Beach, Calif., and other insurance companies and consulting firms, and he served as Utah’s insurance commissioner from 1993 and 1996. He now is a consulting actuary based in Alpine, Utah, and a director of the California State Automobile Association, San Francisco, Calif.

In related news, the AAA named Peter Perkins president elect, and AAA members elected John Parks secretary-treasurer.

Michael Abroe is the new vice president of the AAA Health Practice Council.
