WILTON, Conn. (HedgeWorld.com)–Commonfund Group, the manager of US$30 billion in assets for non-profit institutions, appointed James Meisner managing director in its Marketable Alternative Strategies unit.

He will be part of the team responsible for manager selection, portfolio construction and due diligence and will focus on global discretionary and absolute return strategies. He will report to Nicholas De Monico, head of Marketable Alternative Strategies.

Mr. Meisner comes to Commonfund from Greenwich Capital Markets Inc., where he was managing director and research manager in the Strategies Group. Before that he did stints at Yamaichi International (America) Inc., Merrill Lynch Capital Markets, Prudential-Bache Securities and the Chicago Board of Trade.

Lyn Hutton, chief investment officer of Commonfund Group, commented in a statement that allocations to marketable alternative strategies continue to grow among Commonfund clients and Mr. Meisner “will help support and expand our capability to offer sophisticated portfolios that combine the best internal and external resources and allow us to provide innovative solutions and diversification for endowments, foundations and other non-profits.”
