NU Online News Service, April 28, 2004, 5:16 p.m. EDT – The Guardian Life Insurance Company of America, New York, is helping a defined contribution health plan pioneer expand into the mid-Atlantic region.[@@]

Guardian and Destiny Health, Oak Brook, Ill., organized a meeting Tuesday to announce the expansion of their DC plan alliance into Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C. About 300 insurance producers attended the meeting, Guardian says.

Guardian and Destiny, a unit of Discovery Holdings Ltd., Sandton, South Africa, began teaming up to sell plans in Illinois 6 months ago.

The companies will be selling plans in Virginia and Washington this spring and hope to begin selling plans in Maryland this summer, Guardian says.

Destiny Health has developed a health plan strategy that combines use of personal health accounts with wellness programs and rich benefits for preventive care and costs that are difficult for consumers to control.
