Aetna Combines Health, Disability Case Management

NU Online News Service, March 11, 2004, 4:45 p.m. EST – Aetna Inc., Hartford, has developed a new, voluntary health and disability management program.[@@]

The Aetna Integrated Health and Disability program combines management of medical, disability, mental health and pharmacy data and benefits.

Aetna deals with privacy issues by asking patients who file claims for permission for its health and disability case managers to share information. Although Aetna may bring in case managers from more than one area of the company, the patient and the patient’s doctors can use a single contact person, rather than bouncing from one case manager to another, Aetna says.

The program can handle conditions such as asthma, cancer, cardiovascular disease, depression, diabetes, high-risk pregnancies and major burns.
