NASHVILLE, Tenn. (HedgeWorld.com)–Van Hedge Fund Advisors International hired Thomas B. Whelan as president and chief executive of the firm and its affiliates.
Mr. Whelan joined Van last week. He previously ran a family office and will continue to be based in Greenwich, Conn., said George Van, who is relinquishing the two roles to Mr. Whelan. Mr. Van will continue as chairman of the company.
Prior to running the family office, Mr. Whelan worked two years as chief executive of NatWest’s global equity division and before that worked 12 years at Morgan Stanley, including a stint on its management committee, according to a statement from Van.
Mr. Whelan was given an undisclosed ownership stake in the company as part of his joining the firm. No other changes have taken place at Van as a result of his hiring, in part because he’s only been there a short while, Mr. Van said. “Tom will put his imprimatur on the organization as time goes on,” he said.
Mr. Van had been president and chief executive since Steven Lonsdorf left Van to join Asset Alliance last year Previous HedgeWorld Story.
