NU Online News Service, Aug. 22, 2003, 1:33 p.m. EDT – Safeco Life Insurance Company, Redmond, Wash., is introducing the Select Benefits Indemnity Plan, a group indemnity health insurance plan aimed at temporary workers and part-time workers.

Safeco Life, a unit of Safeco Corp., Seattle, is marketing the plan to hotels, health care companies, employee leasing firms and other employers with at least 51 full-time employees that also employ large numbers of part-time, hourly, seasonal or temporary employees.

Employers can choose monthly premium plans or hourly plans designed so that each employee’s premiums and benefits are based on the number of hours that each employee works.

Safeco Life will not impose medical underwriting requirements if employees enroll within 31 days of becoming eligible for coverage.

Participants can see the provider of their choice because there are no preferred provider lists or networks, Safeco Life says.

The monthly premium for a mid-level package of benefits can range from $70 to $130 per employee, Safeco Life says.

The plan offers $300 to $500 per year in coverage for doctor’s office visits and prescription drug benefits with co-payments of $5 to $30 per prescription.

The plan also covers preventative care, and emergency room visits.
