NU Online News Service, Aug. 6, 2003, 11:41 a.m. EDT – Coalition America Inc., Atlanta, has introduced an XML-based system for receiving, repricing and transmitting medical claim information.
Coalition America already has another system for handling medical claims transmissions that is based on older electronic data interchange interface technology.
The new XML-based system is much more flexible than the EDI system, and doctors, clinics and other customers can use the XML system to transmit claims one at a time, while patients are in the office, rather than waiting to transmit large batches of claims, Coalition America says.
Doctors and clinics rarely get away with charging their full, retail rates these days, but insurers and providers can take weeks to settle on the actual prices when they use paper claims.
Coalition America provides electronic repricing services that help speed up claims processing, especially for patients who are seeking benefits for services provided by doctors and clinics outside their health plan networks.
