NU Online News Service, July 18, 2003, 4:15 p.m. EDT – Anthem Inc., Indianapolis, has set up Anthem Blue Access TAA plan, a health insurance plan designed for Indiana residents who have been displaced by foreign competition and retirees whose pension plans have been taken over by the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corp.

The federal Trade Adjustment Assistance program provides a federal tax credit equal to 65% of the amount paid by the eligible individuals for coverage for themselves and qualifying family members. Residents who qualify for the TAA program can buy the Anthem TAA coverage on a guaranteed-issue basis, with no exclusions and no limits on coverage for pre-existing conditions, Anthem says.

Most of the residents eligible for the TAA plan are former steelworkers, Anthem says.

The Anthem plan, which is based on a preferred provider organization model, includes coverage of preventive care, urgent care and generic prescription drugs.
