NU Online News Service, March 26, 2003, 2:10 p.m. EST – Two groups have set up a Web site to help health plans communicate with doctors and hospitals about the new federal health data transmission standards.
The site is at http://www.wedi.org/snip/caqhimptools
The government developed the new data standards, which take effect in April, to implement a data standards section of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996.
The site organizers, the Council for Affordable Quality Healthcare, Washington, and the Workgroup for Electronic Data Interchange, Reston, Va., say plans can use the site to publish detailed information about their adoption of the HIPAA standards.
Doctors, hospitals and other health care providers can use the site to find out how health plans want them to transmit claims and handle other electronic communications.
Using the service will be free both for the health plans and for the providers, according to CAQH and WEDI.
