NU Online News Service, March 19, 12:38 p.m. – BenefitPoint Inc., San Francisco, says it is now marketing health coverage from BenefitsAlliance, a benefits purchasing group, through its Web-based benefits distribution system.

The alliance, which serves employers with 50 to 5,000 employees, tries to negotiate bigger discounts on health coverage than midsize employers could normally negotiate on their own. Participating employers can offer workers a choice of four different health plans, BenefitPoint says.

The BenefitsAlliance program also offers a full set of Web tools that benefits administrators can use to run the health plans.

BenefitPoint acquired BenefitsAlliance for $94 million in August 2001, according to press reports.

BenefitsAlliance was originally organized by five benefits advisory firms in 1997.
