NU Online News Service, Jan. 2, 8:07 a.m. – The Missouri Department of Insurance is forming its first consumer advisory council.

The 10-member council will hold its first meeting Jan. 31, shortly after the beginning of the legislative session, the department says.

Topics on the agenda could include health care costs, use of applicant credit histories in insurance underwriting, and long-term care insurance consumer protection issues, according to Missouri department officials.

Scott Lakin, department director, says the department will also form an industry advisory council, to promote better communications between regulators and insurers.
