NU Online News Service, Oct. 24, 11:45 p.m. – Florida’s Senate Banking and Insurance Committee is discussing a bill that would allow employees who are called to military service to opt to continue their health care coverage after they return, even if they are terminated while away on military duty.

The bill, S.B. 42, specifies that the termination of an employee after a period of active military duty constitutes a separate qualifying event for allowing the employee to elect to continue coverage under the employer’s group health plan.

The bill is sponsored by state Sen. Locke Burt, R-Ormond Beach, Fla.
