NU Online News Service, Aug. 10, 10:15 a.m. – Fortis Health, Milwaukee, has started a new campaign to promote its short-term medical insurance program, which provides coverage for periods of one to six months.

Fortis Health says the coverage could be especially helpful for workers who are between jobs, and workers who are acting as free-lancers or independent contractors while in between permanent jobs with benefits.

Short-term coverage is also appropriate for college students who lose coverage through their parents’ plans after graduation, new employees waiting for their employers’ coverage to take effect, seasonal employees, and early retirees who are waiting for Medicare coverage to start, Fortis Health says.

Fortis Health is a unit of Fortis, a large Dutch and Belgian financial services company.

CORRECTION: A previous version of this article identified the short-term medical product now being marketed as a new product. Fortis Health says it is actually trying to draw attention to its existing short-term medical insurance product family.
