NU Online News Service, June 29, 4:02 p.m. ? The URAC Claims Processing Advisory Committee, Washington, has put a draft of proposed health claims processing standards on the URAC Web site, at http://www.urac.org

The committee is asking members of the public to read the draft and submit comments by Aug. 29.

URAC, a nonprofit group that develops quality standards for health plan administrators, organized the claims processing advisory committee in 2000.

The committee has developed draft standards that deal with timeliness, claims tracking, quality measurement, claims adjudication and appeals.

URAC executives say they tried to make the draft standards consistent with U.S. Department of Labor claims standards that take effect Jan. 1, 2002.

URAC hopes to release a final version of its claims standards by early October.
