The insurer that recently changed its name to Wellabe has introduced a short-term care insurance policy.

The policy can provide up to $300 per day in benefits for up to 360 days of home health care.

The company is offering the policy to consumers ages 40 through 89.

Clients can add a nursing facility rider, a 5% inflation protection rider and an adult day care rider.

What It Means

Wellabe's product line may be part of a new ripple of insurer interest in finding ways to help clients pay post-acute care bills.

Many insurers backed away from the extended care market because of concerns about problems some carriers had with long-term care insurance policy design and pricing.

Wellabe

Wellabe is the Des Moines, Iowa-based insurer previously known as American Enterprise Group.

Over the years, American Enterprise acquired Medico Insurance, American Republic and Great Western Insurance.

The company rebranded itself in June in an effort to increase its visibility.

The Product

Medico, a Wellabe subsidiary that previously wrote an older short-term care insurance policy, will write the new policy.

The nursing facility care rider available with the policy can add up to $500 per day in nursing facility benefits for up to 360 days.

The adult day care rider can pay up to $50 per visit for up to 20 adult day care visits.
