MetLife Renews Ties to Snoopy, for Pet Insurance

MetLife has been in the worksite pet insurance market since 2020.

MetLife has enlisted Snoopy in an effort to promote its worksite pet insurance program.

The New York-based insurer announced last week that its MetLife Pet Insurance unit has licensed the use of Snoopy from Peanuts Worldwide, which is owned by WildBrain, Sony Music Entertainment (Japan) and the family of Charles M. Schulz.

MetLife began selling pet insurance, which is often classified as a property and casualty insurance product, through employee benefits programs in 2020.

MetLife notes that its pet insurance products include access to veterinarians through a chat service, plans that cover multiple pets, and coverage for care for chronic conditions.

MetLife had a marketing relationship with Peanuts and Snoopy from 1985 through 2016.

The company dropped the relationship in 2017 after it began the process of separating from its individual life and annuity business.
