DOL: Over $1.4B for Benefits Plan Participants Recovered in Fiscal 2022

Nearly $1 billion was recovered through civil investigations, the Labor Department reported.

The Department of Labor said Monday that enforcement and compliance actions taken by its Employee Benefits Security Administration recovered more than $1.4 billion for retirement, health and welfare benefits plans, participants and beneficiaries in fiscal 2022.

EBSA oversees approximately 747,000 retirement plans, 2.5 million health plans and 673,000 other welfare benefit plans, covering 152 million workers, retirees and dependents.

Lisa Gomez, assistant secretary of EBSA, said the Labor division overseeing retirement plans is ”determined to protect the workplace benefits that our nation’s workers, retirees and beneficiaries have earned. Our results in fiscal year 2022 show our commitment to safeguarding the security of the retirement, health and other work-related benefits of America’s workers and their families.”
