TIAA Hires Micky Onvural to Lead Marketing: Personnel Moves

Florida Blue's parent has its first chief health equity officer. NFP has a new Northeast region co-president.

TIAA has picked Micky Onvural to succeed Marty Willis as head of marketing.

The New York-based life insurer and asset manager says Willis is retiring.

Onvural started out in financial services as a wholesaler at Massachusetts Financial Services in 1982. She joined Nuveen, a TIAA company, in 2016. TIAA named her chief marketing officer in August 2020.

Onvural, who will be TIAA’s chief marketing and communications officer, has been an executive at Bonobos, a menswear brand, since 2016, and the brand’s CEO since 2018.

From 2004 through 2008, she was a marketing manager at eBay. When she left, she was senior manager for global brand development. Later, she was vice president of Trulia, the real estate website. Onvural has also been a marketing executive at Kellogg’s.

She broke into marketing, as a group brand manager, at L’Oreal, in 1999.

She has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Cambridge.

GuideWell Mutual Holding Corp. — the Jacksonville, Florida-based parent of Florida Blue — has named Dr. Kelli Tice its first chief health equity officer.

Florida Blue provides or administers health coverage for 5 million Florida residents.

Tice has been senior medical director for medical affairs at Florida Blue since 2018. She has been the leader for clinical considerations for the company’s COVID-19 response effort.

Tice began working for Florida Blue in 2018. Before that, she spent 17 years working as a public health physician.

She has a bachelor’s degree from Florida A&M University and a medical degree from the University of Florida. She is the chair of the deans council at the University of North Florida’s health college.

NFP

NFP, a New York-based insurance broker, has named Kate Henry to be co-president for corporate benefits, retirement and individual solutions for its Northeast region.

Henry will take over part of the job of Bill Austin, who is leaving the Northeast regional president post to become the managing director of NFP’s South Florida business.

Austin was also in charge of property and casualty sales. NFP has picked Mike Walsh to be the co-president for Northeast region P&C lines.

Henry has been the managing director for benefits for NFP’s Northeast region since 2017. She began working for NFP in 2012.

Earlier in her career, Henry worked for Ambrose Employer Group and for Mercer.

She has a bachelor’s degree from New York University.

Colorado Access

Colorado Access — a nonprofit health plan based in Denver — has hired Annie Lee to succeed Dr. Marshall Thomas as the plan’s next president and CEO.

Thomas, who has been the plan’s president and CEO for 16 years, is retiring.

Lee is the executive director of community health and Medicaid strategies at Children’s Hospital Colorado. She has also served as senior director of Medicaid and charitable coverage programs at Kaiser Permanente Colorado.

Earlier, she worked for the Colorado Department of Health Care Policy and Financing.

Lee has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Colorado and a law degree from the University of Denver.
