Nationwide Names Life Sales Distribution Leader: Personnel Moves

New York Life has a new chief information officer. American Equity added a chief legal officer.

Nationwide has picked Frank Spencer to be the new leader of life sales distribution.

Spencer previously was the head of the life brokerage general agency sales at the Columbus, Ohio-based insurer.

Spencer has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Rochester and a master’s degree in management from The American College.

He started out in underwriting at Allstate before moving over to Nationwide.

In other personnel moves news:

New York Life Insurance Co. has named Bill Cassidy chief information officer.

Cassidy will succeed Dave Castellani, who is retiring at the end of this month.

Cassidy began working for New York Life in 2018 and has been a senior vice president at the company. He has a bachelor’s degree in computer mathematics from Long Island University-Southampton campus.

He worked in information technology at companies such as BlackRock, Goldman Sachs and Och-Ziff Capital Management before going to work for New York Life.

American Equity Investment Life Holding Co. has hired Phyllis Zanghi to be executive vice president and chief legal officer.

American Equity is based in West Des Moines, Iowa.

Zanghi previously was associate general counsel at Brighthouse Financial Inc.

She has a bachelor’s degree from Rutgers University-New Brunswick and a law degree from St. John’s University. She also has a master’s degree in tax law from New York University.

The Standard has hired Brian Stubbs to be a retirement plan consultant.

He’ll help the Portland, Oregon-based company work with advisors and third party administrators in New Jersey, eastern Pennsylvania, Delaware and New York.

He previously was a regional vice president for sales at Ascensus.

He has a bachelor’s degree from West Chester University of Pennsylvania.
