An African American woman has been chosen for the first time as chair-elect of the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, the organization announced today.

Kamila McDonnough, president and partner of GRID 202 Partners, an RIA based in Washington, D.C., and North Carolina, will become chair of the CFP board in 2022.

“Kamila has significant experience as a leader in the financial planning profession and I value tremendously her expertise and insight, which have been very apparent during her time on CFP’s Board of Directors,” said CFP Chair Jack Brod, in a statement.

Before Grid 202, which McDonnough joined in February, she was with Rutledge Financial Partners as a wealth manager and Dimensional Fund Advisors as a financial advisor. She began her career in the business with Vanguard, where she managed assets for ultra-high net worth individuals as well as endowments and institutions.

“I look forward to working together with CFP Board’s Board of Directors to advance CFP Board’s tradition of excellence and continue its visionary efforts to positively impact the financial planning profession,” said McDonnough, who earned a B.A. and MBA from Pennsylvania State University. She became a CFP in 2013, and joined the CFP’s Board of Directors on Jan. 1, 2019.

In addition to her work and CFP duties, the Charlotte, North Carolina resident has been active in several organizations including the Investment Committee for Women Against Abuse and the Junior League of Charlotte Legacy Foundation. She is an active volunteer with the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program.
