Carriers are getting in over their heads with variable annuities and annuity contract holders are dusting off their spectacles to look over the fine, fine print. Overgenerous benefits and riders promised a pre-crisis and pre-low interest rate environment, but advisors, clients and carriers are getting headaches. Not to mention giving annuities a brand-new public relations crisis.
